International agreements
Luxembourg has signed bilateral agreements with more than 20 countries.
With the exception of the agreement with China, these bilateral agreements are governed by the principles of equal treatment, aggregation of insurance periods and export of benefits. They apply to all persons regardless of nationality, with the exception of the agreements with Brazil, Cape Verde, Morocco and Tunisia, which apply only to nationals of the contracting parties and to nationals of the European Union.
China's agreement does not provide for the principle of aggregation of insurance periods, but does regulate secondments, the export of benefits and equal treatment.
All agreements apply to employees and self-employed workers.
The coordination rules laid down in the agreements are aligned with those in the European Union regulations, and in some cases even extended.
